Makkah's traffic shifts with Umrah and Hajj seasons and peak periods, so a smooth departure is planned backwards: start from your flight time and work back.

Start with your ticket.

Plan to arrive at the airport three hours before your international flight, and check your airline's instructions on your ticket.

Allow for traffic.

Rush hours, Umrah and Hajj seasons and Fridays change road conditions between Makkah and Jeddah. Choose a departure time that gives you a safety margin.

Pack the night before.

Closing and counting your bags before sleep makes departure morning faster, especially with the purchases you added during the trip.

Agree on a clear meeting point.

Large Makkah hotels have crowded entrances. Set a specific pickup point with your trip operator at the hotel entrance, and make sure every family member knows it.

For groups: one list, one gathering time.

A single gathering time in the hotel lobby and a passenger name list keep the group from being delayed by one person.
